Every year a group of friends and I go to the Ohio State Fair and eat our way from one end to the other. This includes but not limited to Roasted Corn on the cob, Fair fries, meats from the Ohio Farm Bureau building (which was frightening cold this year,) and last but not least Ice Cream from the Dairy Building.
There is also the traditional slide down the big slide with Will, who is now going to be a senior in High School. I won’t tell you how young he was when we took the Batcopter for a ride. Sheeesh….
So many great memories. I look forward to it every year.
MOVE from Rick Mereki on Vimeo.
3 guys, 44 days, 11 countries, 18 flights, 38 thousand miles, an exploding volcano, 2 cameras and almost a terabyte of footage… all to turn 3 ambitious linear concepts based on movement, learning and food ….into 3 beautiful and hopefully compelling short films…..
= a trip of a lifetime.
move, eat, learn
On Friday, April 29, 2011 I went to Chicago. I spoke in front a room full of people about me. This is not normal. The American Society of Picture Professionals (aspp.com) asked me to speak during there day long educational event. Actually, it was George Sinclair who asked me to do the talk. He even made up a topic for me to speak on. “Merging multiple careers and Multitasking” was my topic.
The presentation went off without a hitch. I had fun. The audience had fun. And I think everyone learned a little something.
I learned that I am better at public speaking than I thought. For this event, I brought one of those portable audio recorders. And, after listening to it post-event, I did well. All in all, the talk was a very good experience.
You can see the slides from the event at http://www.slideshare.net/raylavoie/raylavoie-aspp

So excited that this great shot made it into email inboxes all over the country. Great shot done by a great team, Darla, Jim and Corissa. We had great fun and this is the result of that fun!

A new Post “The Arc Of Your Careeer” was written on the April 15, 2011 at 8:42 am on “A Photo Editor”.
The arc of a career is like climbing a tree. You could climb straight up and get to the top, but you would have missed the potential exploration of each of the branches. And I think that’s when the magic is revealed. That’s when you really start to look and you start to take it past where you’ve been.

So amazing that no one thought this one up before! Saw this the other night at a CSCA event I was photographing. Kristin Burwell had it attached to her iPad and doing transactions for the organization. It has a set rate of 2.75% for each swipe. That is so much better than what most card companies cost. All this from the co-founder of Twitter, Jake Dorsey. I have already had two friends order there’s.
